Karen Seward is a music educator in Baltimore, MD. Ms. Seward teaches at Pinewood Elementary School in Baltimore County, where she is the 4th/5th grade Band and Orchestra director. Karen also teaches 3rd Grade Exploratory Music, and 4th and 5th grade Music Fundamentals. She also serves as the Arts Integration PLC co-chair, and serves on the Faculty Council at Pinewood Elementary. She serves on the School Leadership Team, and is a on the Drama Club Team. Ms. Seward was chosen as the Pinewood ES "Teacher of the Year" in 2016.
Karen is the director of the Peabody Preparatory Concert Band, and also teaches Group Brass class and Group woodwind class at the Preparatory. She has directed the Wind Band since 2009, and in 2015, led the Wind Band through the World Premier of the commissioned work: Lights Out by composer Alex Shapiro.
Ms. Seward serves as adjunct music faculty at Carroll Community College in Westminster, MD, where she has taught Music Appreciation and History of Rock and Roll.
Karen served on the faculty of the Baltimore Symphony's ORCHkids program from 2008-2015, teaching the Exploratory program and serving as one of the orchestra directors.
During the summers, Karen Seward travels throughout Europe, as one of the Symphonic Band Directors on the American Music Abroad Gold Tour. She has conducted these honor bands in Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, and the Czech Republic.
Ms. Seward holds a M.M. and a B.M. in Music Education from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
